An air saw can help make cutting jobs easier, faster and more accurate. Whether you’re a contractor taking on a home improvement project or a professional tradesman repairing automotive, knowing how to properly and safely operate an air saw is key to cuts.
Understanding Air Saw Basics
Air saws are versatile pneumatic tools that use compressed air to drive a saw blade for cutting various materials. Unlike abrasive cut-off tools, air saws provide fast, clean and burr-free cuts through metal, plastic, wood and even fiberglass. The lack of motor and heat damage gives air saws utility for projects in flammable or industrial work settings well.
Use fine-toothed metal cutting blades for steel and alloy materials. Choose specialized blades for wood, plastic and fiberglass. Ensure the blade has the proper capacity for the thickness and hardness of the material being cut.
Controlling the Cut
With the right blade and psi, you can begin cutting. But first, secure your workpiece properly. Clamp materials tightly to a stable workbench or sawhorse to prevent unwanted movement and vibration.
Let the tool do the work, advancing the blade slowly through the material without forcing or twisting motions. Apply smooth, even pressure allowing the spinning blade to penetrate and make its way forward.
Use chalk or markers to draw out precise cut lines on the material surface. Identify the exit points for cut-outs to prevent overcutting. Affix straight board guides clamped squarely across cut lines to keep the air saw steady and on track. Guides allow long straight cuts without veering off course.
For curved cuts, gently steer the nose of the saw to guide the blade around contours. Move slowly and smoothly following your cut marks. Plunge cutting internally cut shapes is possible with an air saw but requires extra care.
Finishing the Cut
As the blade nears the end of a cut, reduce pressure slightly to avoid over-cutting or gouging the material. Allowing the air saw to coast slowly out of the kerf makes for the cleanest cut edge.
Turn off the saw, disconnect air supply, and wait for blade to stop before withdrawing it from an internal cut or kerf. Never yank a spinning blade backward out of a narrow slot.
To prevent marring the cut surface, avoid resting the air saw directly on the material once finished. After cutting, carefully inspect the piece for any unwanted marks and sand or polish light imperfections.
Troubleshooting Common Air Saw Cutting Issues
Wavy Cuts. Uneven pressure, low psi, or dull worn blades can distort straight cuts. Maintain steady feed force, increase air supply, and use newer sharp blades.
Binding Blade. Forcing or twisting a blade when cutting instead of smooth forward pressure causes binding. Ease up on downward force and advance blade slower to prevent jamming.
Excess Blade Wear. Cutting overly hard materials, abrasive surfaces, or using wrong blade type wears teeth prematurely. Use recommended blade types and more frequent blade replacement when cutting extremely abrasive material.
Air Pressure Loss. Air hose leaks or disconnected fittings reduce supplied pressure. Inspect hoses and connections to ensure tight, sealed airflow path before cutting.
The RONGPENG RP7601 air saws empower you to accurately cut profiles and shapes that would be difficult with alternative tools. This tool is designed to cut up to 1/16"steel or /2"Plywood. The light-weight, slim designed tool cuts curved surface and tight circles with ease.
Adjustable blade guide increases blade life. Tool comes with a safety trigger to prevent accidental starts. Spring blade guard also acts as a tools slide. Use rear exhaust. Cuts all types of aluminum, plastic, fiberglass and sheet metal.
They are highly useful for straight cuts and curved cutouts in sheet metal, pipe, plastic guarding and panels. Equipped with the RONGPENG RP7601, you can fulfill various onsite maintenance, construction, remodeling and industrial cutting needs with an air saw.
